Our Charity for 2012

With 2012 having an extremely large emphasis on a sporting theme with the Olympics and Paralympics taking place not to mention our 2012 theme ‘The Olympics’ we have chosen a Cornish Charity linked to Sport and it is:

Community Action Through Sport

About CATS

CATS aims :
to promote, recognise and reward all young people for positive community action with sports based awards.
Volunteering is the Inspiration.
Recognition is the key.
Sport is the driving force.

HISTORY

CATS was established in 2005 in Bude, North Cornwall, in answer to a dispersal area being imposed on young people. The youngsters insisted that they did not want to be ‘tarred with the same brush’ and wanted to be known for the good things that they do and be able to afford access to sports activities. CATS was the solution… creating a Big Societybefore its time.

Simply put,  CATS offers all young people the opportunity to get involved in a positive way with their community who are then awarded with sports activities and/or healthy living rewards. Very often sports, that the young person cannot afford or has not considered before.

CATS is aimed at ALL young people. Whether they need to be directed into positive community action or are already great community members. Recognition is the key. Sport is the driving force.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

to increase self esteem, confidence and achievement in young people taking part

Give access to sports not considered or afforded before, therefore creating healthier lifestyles.

Create community volunteer opportunities to develop respect and social inclusion.

To reduce instances of anti social behaviour (target projects at ASB) by increasing youth involvement in physical activity

Innovative ways to engage young people to take responsibility for running their own community programmes for others.

To ensure communities celebrate the positive work that young people take part in.

To enourage young people to become responsible adults for the future.

We are delighted to be able to give our support to this innovative and exciting initiative via the 2012 Jamboree and hope to have a successful year to enable us to make a generous donation to the Charity.

I am pleased to report that I have obtained the necessary TENS licence and this year our entertainment will continue to Midnight on Friday, Midnight on Saturday and 11.00pm on the Sunday.

Entertainment in the evenings will consist of a mixture of Disco and Live music with full details yet to be confirmed but be prepared to have a good time.

The Saturday evening will be the evening to get creative and turn up dressed appropriately to reflect the Olympics theme. Sorry but no Javelins, Longbows, Crossbows or shooting equipment will be permitted.

============================================================================

For our younger guests we have arranged return performances from Mr Wacky and Richard Ready for both the Saturday and Sunday mornings and afternoons.

============================================================================

We have booked for the adults too of course and have Alan, The Belfast Busker and Ty, Mr T performing their usual sets adjacent to the main Marquee, we hope with everyone enjoying their performances in the warm Cornish Sunshine. If that plan fails they can always move into the Marquee, not the same atmosphere in there though I feel.

============================================================================

Sue Trebilcock is coming along with her Laser Tag and kiddies go cart track which was very well received in 2011

============================================================================

The full range of Bouncy Castles and associated outside activities will be provided in line with previous years thanks to Ultra Entertainments.

============================================================================

The Catering will contain a full range of cuisine suitable for both meat and cereal eaters with an excellent range of hot and cold food to be enjoyed. You will be pleased to learn that we have secured a pie stand for 2012, always popular.

============================================================================

We hope the Trade Area will be fully populated but as we must all appreciate the cost of fuel is at an all time high and trying to persuade VW traders from upper England to make the trip to sunny Cornwall is getting more and more difficult. It is far cheaper for the mainstream traders to supply customers via the Internet and this makes securing their attendance trickier year on year. Our efforts have commenced already and we hope to have a good selection of parts, both old & new, a range of craft stalls for the ladies and a varied selection of general traders to make the trade area interesting for all.

===========================================================================

The Show and Shine has grown to mammoth proportions with nearly 140 cars taking part last year.

We have always tried very hard to keep the Show & Shine arena Dog free but this has caused much friction which culminated in some quite ugly arguments last year. For obvious health and safety reasons the judges don’t want to lie under vehicles if there is the chance of finding one of mans best friends gift packages in the same location. The field is also the local football pitch and they too don’t want any deposits left.

As a compromise for 2012 we propose to place the ban on canines during the Judging period from 1200 to 1500hrs

so dogs will be allowed on the field until 1200 and after 1500hrs. Owners will be expected to be responsible and clear up after their pets and bins will be provided.

We are also insisting for health and safety reasons and, to give everyone the chance of viewing the full range of vehicles that owners do not move their vehicles or leave the show and shine arena until 1630 hrs once positioned within their classes.
