Jamboree History

The CVWOC Jamboree has taken place for thye last 24 years and this therefore means that 2011  will be the ‘Silver Jubilee’ event, number 25.

I wonder if the original group of friend who decided to run a small local show all those years ago expected the show to survive and grow in size to reacy it’s current position within the National circuit of Volkswagen events.

Richard Searles organises our Show and Shine each year and in the 2010 show there were approximately 130 registered vehicles (would have been even more if everyone had arrived within the registration window) taking part in I think 18 classes. Plus, this year, we had a special request to include a Volkswagen pedal car belonging to a 4 year old son of one of our visitors. Needless to say he won the class and we managed to find a special cup to present to him.

Nigel, Richards Son, interviewed him about his ‘ride’ and this lasted several minutes. Shall we say not a dry eye in the crowd, he was amazing but no off button !

As an added attraction next year it has been decided to hold an official pedal car class for the fledgling VW enthusiasts with one proviso, even if its a wooden soap box styled car it must bear a VW badge to enter.

The 24th Show took place oiver the August Bank Holiday weekend of 2010 and, the weather was kind tom us this year with dry sunny weather for all three days Friday, Saturday & Sunday and, it was event sunnier on the Monday when we had to clean up and reinstate the site for the owners.

The Show and Shine was, as said earlier very well subscribed indeed in 2010. Each class has three cup willers for 1st, 2nd & 3rd and, there is one special cup awarded for the Spirit of Show. This is awarded in memory of Rob Appleton the late son of a former chairman, Bill Appleton whi tragically died as the result of a motor accident at a very young age.

This year it was won by Scott Penhaligon for his now, very well known, Acme Bus. Every time you see it something has changed on it in it or under it. However, Scott must be running out of things to do now as this time out the addition was a camping trailer in a similar style to the van. Well done Scott.

I intend interviewing some of the prime movers who started the event and will be placing their views on this page. with any luck we may be able to establish a time line and find photographs from the older events too.

The event has used many venues in the past ranging from Farm Fields to The Royal Cornwall Show Ground, The Monkey Tree Holiday Park and  for the past 6 events at the Stithians Show.e Ground near Falmouth. We hope to continue using this venue for years to came as it is an excellent site. In wet weather the ground manages to survive well thanks to the site being very well drained and, after a few hours sunshine you would not believe it had been wet.
